Bendigo Bank Netball Carnival
On Thursday 30 April, high school students from all around the Great Southern, as well as two specialist netball schools from Perth, descended upon the Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre for the annual and highly popular Bendigo Community Bank’s High Schools Netball Carnival. Seventeen schools were entered in the competition, with a total of 58 teams and a massive 158 games played on the day! St Joseph’s College took three teams: a Year Seven/Eight Girls, Year Nine/Ten Girls and Year Eleven/Twelve Girls.

In the Year Seven/Eight Girls Division, which had 16 teams competing, St Joseph’s had an excellent day out, convincingly winning the last of their two of three preliminary rounds to get through to the Divisional Crossover where they defeated the specialist netball school Governor Stirling from Perth 13-2. This team holds great promise for future carnivals in the years to come.

In the Year Nine/Ten Girls Division, St Joseph’s College also had a fantastic day, winning four of their six games against tough opposition. The combined Eleven/Twelve girls were unlucky to be placed in the toughest division of all, competing against country week teams from all other schools. They came away with two wins and two losses, which was a superb effort and no doubt scared the opposition.

Congratulations to all girls on their commitment to the teams and their exceptional sportsmanship throughout the day.

Coaches awards for the day go to: Year Seven/Eight: Ella Scamozzi and Madison Dallimore
Year Nine/Ten: Maddison Hines and Sophie Lynch
Year Eleven/Twelve: Meg Gibson and Ashleigh Smith

A huge thank you to team umpires/coaches on the day: Madeleine and Sam Jones, Dani Lynch and Trish Hines. Thanks also to the parents, grandparents and other family members who came to support the teams on the day.

We look forward to the 2016 carnival in Katanning.
