First Eucharist

On Friday 5 June we had a wonderful culmination to the preparation for the Sacrament of First Eucharist with a retreat day which we hosted on behalf of Holy Family Parish. All of the communicants from the parish, those who prepared as part of the After School Programme as well as those who prepared as part of the school curriculum, along with the Prayer Friends in Year Four who have supported their friends during this time of preparation, were involved in a range of activities.

Thanks must go to Mrs Gloria Barnes, the Parish Catechists, Mrs Chris Palfrey, Mrs Sharleen Cavanagh and the priests of the parish for their time and dedication in preparing the young people of the parish to receive the Sacrament.

Mrs Gloria Barnes, the Parish Sewing Group and Mrs Chris Palfrey require an extra mention of thanks for all of the work that went into preparing the resources and activities for the retreat day. We were very fortunate to have a wonderful group of parent helpers who came along for the day to assist the students in making the sashes that the communicants wore on the night.

The Mass was a wonderful celebration with all three priests, Fr Jorge, Fr Chris and Fr Dom concelebrating the Mass. The children were all beautifully attired. All of the communicants had an active role in the Mass: as part of the entrance procession and in the presentation of the gifts. It was wonderful for the parents and catechists to be readers and the communicants, who read prayers, were all very confident.
