ACC Athletics

The 46 member team for the Years Seven - Twelve ACC G Division Athletics Carnival competed in a very successful event on Monday at the WA State Athletics Stadium. There was plenty of excitement amongst the athletes with the opportunity to compete at this relatively new venue and for many the first chance to run on a synthetic running track.

From the first few events it was clear that St Josephs College was going to be the team to beat with standout performers in every age division. These great performances continued throughout the event which saw the team take second place by only 18 points. To add to this result the Junior Boys came first and we took out first place in the Overall Boys competition.

The following students were standouts in their age categories:
Flynn Turton U/13 Champion Boy
Jared Wiegele U/14 Champion Boy
Brock Anning U/14 Boys 3rd overall
Kayla Thomas U/14 Runner Up Champion Girl
Jordy Morcom U/14 Boys 3rd overall
Hamish Walker U/14 Boys 4th overall
Sophie Lynch U/15 Girls 3rd overall

The efforts of all of the athletes contributed to the great overall result, with many students competing in multiple events with little rest time between them and several athletes stepping in to replace others who were unable to complete all of their races. With great results from many of our junior athletes the future looks bright for the team next year!

Thanks to the P&F for their financial contributions to reduce the cost of the trip for the team. Thanks also to Ms Kate van Hulssen and Mrs Caroline Tompkin for joining us on the two day trip and to Ms van Hulssen for her assistance in preparing the team prior to the event.
