Book Week

The Theme for Book Week this year was 'Australia: Story Country'.
Many of the shortlisted books were read to students in the Junior School classes and they were able to vote for their favourite book. Many of the Junior School classes headed off on an excursion to the Albany Town Library to take part in Book Week activities.
During Book Week the students in Junior School invited a family member to their Library class where Miss Bishopp shared her expertise as a Library teacher with a PowerPoint presentation about the importance of shared reading. She demonstrated reading aloud and discussed some of the techniques for promoting a love of reading at home. These sessions proved to be very popular and the children enjoyed showing their family member their new Library and the Book Week displays which had been created by the Library staff. The family member was then invited to stay for morning/afternoon tea.
Of course the highlight of Book Week was the Book Week Parade which took place on Wednesday 24 August at 9.00am in the College Gym. This is a whole College event and is always well patronized. There was a huge turnout of students in their costumes many of which were homemade imaginative creations. Needless to say the judges were under the pump and struggled to choose a winner for each year. Each year level paraded around the gym twice accompanied by boppy, happy music provided by Mrs Goodlad. There was a huge turnout of staff involved this year. It was marvellous to see so many parents at the parade. Thank you to the ladies from the Parents and Friends for their support with their delicious coffee and cakes.
